24 weeks!

My goodness, am I really that far along now??? Do we really only have 16 more weeks to prepare for a life changing event?? Geez. We have a lot to do.

Fun facts:
I am officially in my 6th month of pregnancy. I still can't quite fit into maternity shirts. I hate chicken now (unless it's fried). All I want is steak and fish. I am officially halfway finished with my MBA!

Another fun fact: From the moment I found out I was pregnant, all I could think about was how life was going to change. For some reason, one of the things I was incredibly focused on was how I was going to go fishing for long periods of time if I was still breastfeeding. I know it is a ridiculous thing to focus on especially since I haven't been fishing in like 3 years. There are more important things to focus on (like, how are we actually going to raise a human?). But I found myself totally fixated on this. And how vacations with my husband were going to forever change. So what did we do about this?? First, I scheduled a babymoon with my darling hubby for July to Destin for a long weekend.

Second, my Dad took me fishing last weekend. We had a couple of days of all day fishing and it was awesome. The only downside to fishing while 6 months pregnant standing a lot in the sun, heat and humidity is the size my feet and ankles decided to swell to. Grade 2 pitting edema...not fun...but worth it for plenty of trout. Exactly how much water was retained? Well, last night I got home I weighed myself (and then pouted a little). This morning (after getting up 4 times in the middle of the night) I was 5 pounds lighter.

Anyhow, here's the bean (with swollen mom) at 24 weeks.

We went shopping!

This weekend, our only goal (besides napping) was to purchase a crib. Mission accomplished... and then some. The crib and matching dresser will be here in about 4-6 weeks.

We also bought a Baby K'tan wrap. Sort of an impulse purchase, but Ryan really really liked it so we went with it. I wasn't entirely sold on strapping the kiddo to my body, but after we got home and we tested it on our in house QA department, I am a total covert. That thing is soooo comfortable!

Baby news: At 23 weeks and over a pound, the critter is moving all over the place and taking advantage of the real estate while it can. Everything looks and is measuring great!

Snoogle hog

I have always been a stomach sleeper. With the ever growing bump, my neck finds itself in very uncomfortable positions when, despite my best efforts, I roll onto my stomach during the night to sleep. Eventually, the bean started kicking the crap out of me and waking me up to roll over and off of it. The only other position I have really slept in is on my back. Apparently, sleeping on your back is just as bad after 20 weeks or so since it decreases blood flow to the baby.

I hate sleeping on my side. Limbs fall asleep, its just uncomfortable. A couple of my friends have told me about the magical C shaped, body length, snoogle pillow. I went ahead and bought this pillow last week in order to lodge my body into one position on my side for the night. I got a great night's sleep, on my side, and have had fantastic sleep ever since.

Zap is equally pleased with the pillow. (notice his actual bed on the floor, unused)

My Gut

Last weekend, we took Zapato to the beach for the first time. Safe to say he's a beach bum like me. Not so fun pregnancy fact, apparently my built in SPF mexican no longer makes me impervious to the sun's rays. I burned like a white girl and boy did it hurt!

Now there's no denying there's a human growing in there. I'm just getting big all over. Sigh.

BB's playlist

Of course we are already in the process of exposing our child to have a perfectly eclectic mix of music.

A couple of weeks ago we started with the following songs, Ryan and I each picked some of our faves.

1. Otis Redding- That's how strong my love is (the first song Ryan and I danced to at our wedding)
2. The Ramones- I wanna be sedated (what? I like punk. Sue me. The Sex Pistols are on another playlist)
3. Band of Horses- No one's gonna love you (more than I do)
4. Flaming lips- Do you realize?

Belly and Baby test driving

So I haven't been as diligent as I would hoped I would in keeping up with the blog, but oh well. Give me a break. I'm growing a human and getting my MBA. Here are some photos and some updates.

14 week belly

16 week belly

Currently at 19 weeks (almost halfway!!) and no picture, but I will post one by the end of the week.

More exciting than my belly: My friend Sara entrusted her adorable son to Ryan and I while her and husband Danny went out on a date. He was such a great kid, lots of fun, and a total sport about Zap stealing his toys. We got to see how the dog reacted to a crawling kiddo. Thankfully, the two were fast friends. We also got to test drive Bob! Bob, Zap and Cayden all did great with each other.

Finally, I would like to brag about my amazing husband. Not only did he stand toe to toe with this guy (more like belly to toe) in a hot dog eating contest, he finished his first screenplay today! He plans on entering into the Austin Film Fest this year. I could not be more proud of him, this was a huge feat.
