Don't be ashamed.

I know I'm guilty of a couple of these cliches. Don't be ashamed, embrace the smugness that pregnancy might have brought you. Thanks to Val for the video.

What are we doing this weekend?

This weekend the big plans are to begin the migration of the study/office into the guest bedroom to make way for the bean's stuff. Primarily, this means getting a new and smaller desk, TV stand, and cleaning out both closets. There are also a couple of other DIY projects that I will keep a suprise for now. We are also going to tear down the monstrous blinds that take up the 80x80 inch window and put up some new window treatments. All while doing my economics homework. Stay tuned for before and afters!

We've got a jumping Bean!

The past few days I have experienced what all the websites call "fluttering" but I just attributed this feeling to gas. This morning, there was a distinct knock from within my uterus! There is definitely something in there!! This is starting to feel more and more real everyday. Through all my ultrasounds, I keep forgetting that what I see on the screen is actually going on in my body. This was a nice reminder that I am actually growing that little critter.

Gift from the Burtons!

Ryan came home yesterday to discover that we received a package from his parents. However, we have a little gate that blocks the walkway to the front door and when we have packages delivered they are thrown over this gate. Zapato considers the delivery of packages a serious invasion of his kingdom. He barrels down the stairs and through the doggy door and launches a full attack on the boxes and their contents. This made amazon deliveries during Christmas quite interesting. Thankfully, it is usually only the boxes, not the contents, that are damaged.

This was a close call... Thankfully, the children's book, box of diapers, and package of onesies were not damaged. Zap is just excited about opening presents I think.

Bob's in my trunk

Don't worry. Bob's not a dead body, its a stroller. Yes we bought our stroller yesterday. We had a 20% off coupon to REI and we got our REI member dividend in, so we decided to celebrate our pregnancy with our first baby purchase and buy a stroller. It's so pimp. The staff at REI is fantastic and amazing and wonderful and helpful and pleasant. The bike shop mechanic even put Bob together for us and filled up his tires.

A bit about Bob. He's an awesome jogging stroller that can be adapted to fit an infant car seat. He turns on a dime and takes about 5 seconds to collapse and pop back up. Amazon ratings, awesome. Consumer report reviews, awesome. Baby Bargains grade, A. He's awesome. The experience was awesome.

Well, it was awesome until we strolled him out to my car, collapsed it down and threw it in my trunk. That's when it hit me. Holy crap, I am incubating a human! Soon there will be a baby in my car! Then there will be spit up on every scrap of clothing I own! Then it will be telling me it hates me because I didn't pack the right lunch (which will earn stern look and possibly a smack)! Then its getting married to someone with misspelled tattoos!

I realized I was getting a bit overwhelmed and my dear sweet husband drove me home while I tried to focus on something more short term... how am I going to reel in fish this summer with my belly in the way?

12 weeks!

Monday was the big 12 week ultrasound. The little dancing bean (which is now the size of a plum) passed with flying colors. One of the big things that is reviewed on this scan is the nuchal fold behind the baby's neck and how much fluid is in there. This gives the doctor a better idea of the risk for Down's and other chromosomal abnormalities. Ideally, the thickness is supposed to be less than 2.0mm. Bean's was about 1.3 (which is awesome). Typical risk for Down's for a 30 year old like myself is about 1 in 650. The risk now, considering the NT scan is now about 1 in 4,000.

It is still a little too early to determine the sex. Maybe in a few more weeks, but we are still unsure if we want to find out or not. I know that is going to drive some people crazy.

Here are some stats:
Weight gain-5 pounds-I would like to add that my Dr. won't let me start jogging or exercising again for another 2 weeks.
Symptoms-Not as bad as a month ago, but mostly tired and occasional nausea. I hear (mostly from Ryan) that this will improve in the next month and my fatigue will be more bearable once I can start to exercise again.
Baby size- plum!
Pants- I can still wear my pants. I have to use the bella-cheat band, but I can still wear my pants dangit!

I am having issues with my scanner, but once I fix it I will be able to upload some pics of the bean from Monday.

In the mean time here is a picture of our first baby with his new shirt on.

Here's a 12 week pic of the belly.

What we are reading?

Here are a couple of odd situations that have occurred at the house lately. A couple of weeks ago, Ryan and I were watching the Social Network (awesome movie by the way-highly recommend it) and Ryan asked a question about why companies issue new stock. With all my shiny new knowledge from my finance class, I attempted to dazzle him with my brilliance. He was somewhat impressed and then thanked me for taking care of our retirement and investments. Last night, I went to bed around 9:30. Ryan came to bed around 10:30. Somewhere around 11:30 I got up with an incredibly full bladder and made a comment about how I have been getting up at least once, usually twice a night, to go to the restroom. Ryan, who was still awake, calmly says "Oh honey that's totally normal. It's because your uterus is putting more pressure on your bladder. You'll probably start to experience some mild back pain in the next month or so. And, you should probably know, you will have to use the restroom more at night the further you get along." I was really impressed and thanked him for being an awesome pregnancy guide to me.
Here's what I've been reading the past 4 weeks:
